I mentioned in this post that I would share the first chapter of my new story when it was ready, and it is ready!

This is a story I started tooling with a while back and have since then given it a new direction, some new characters, some new conflict and a new bad guy (though legends about him have been around for a long time).

In order to share the story I’ve created a new Drupal site. Within it I feature a writing blog, where I talk about writing, and the actual book itself. The blog posts are public, but the book posts are locked to friends; as such, if you’re interested in checking out Chapter 1, please request an account on the site and I’d be glad to add you as a user! Please leave a valid email so that I can ask you who you are if I do not recognize your handle.

If you do decide to create a user on my site, I want you to know that I really appreciate your interest! Please let me know what you think – as I mention on my site, I’m writing for the experience and for the criticism, not because I think I’m a tremendous writer and need to share my awesomeness with the world.

lately I’ve been getting back into writing fiction, something that for many years was part of my daily routine, but for the last several years (or maybe more than several) has been decidedly cut out.

it feels great to be back to it, though I’m sorely out of practice! I can’t say I’m altogether disappointed with the results however, and that’s because I’m not taking myself too seriously; my main goal is to get back into proper “writing shape” by reading a bunch and putting words down on paper. Maybe after a few hundred pages I’ll start criticizing myself more and getting some proper feedback, but for now, rediscovering the fun of writing is the reason I’m doing it.

that said, in the coming weeks (or maybe days?) I’m planning on sharing my latest project with friends! I’ll be doing it on a Drupal site (that I created partially because I wanted to share my book, but perhaps mostly because I wanted to learn how to use Drupal, thanks to my good friends Lynette and Earl). I’ll be writing a chapter at a time, and posting each one to my site as I come up with it.

more about that when I’ve finished the the first installment! As I mentioned, I’m not exactly in proper writing form, so it may take a while to get going… but I’ll get there!

so if only because I don’t really have anything of interest to say right now, I thought I’d post another short story. This one I wrote back in 2007 for a Machine of Death story competition that I didn’t win, so before the CD-R I have it saved on cracks and I lose it forever, I’m putting it up here! Problems with the story, aside from, you know, problems with the writing itself, include the fact that the plot is too similar to that of the movie Minority Report (which in my defense I’ve never seen, so while writing this story I had no idea) and also the word CRACK!, but I’m not gonna change anything at this point.

so if you care to, you may read it here.

for my first post on this new blog, I thought I’d share a story!

so, here it is. I guess it is sci-fi, but maybe not in a traditional sense. I’ve got a lot of writing to do yet before I start trying to publish things, so I don’t mind sharing it here. Feedback is welcomed!

this is also my first try at crossposting to my LiveJournal account, so let’s see how that goes.

otherwise, the family is great, it’s getting cooler outside (which is also great), and it’s almost time for lunch!
